Support Committee Volunteer Roles

Volunteering with 557

As a screened and registered member of the support committee, each volunteer is a voting member of the committee. Working in cross-functional teams, the basic responsibilities of each volunteer are:

  • Community Fundraising: Actively plan, organize, promote and participate in online and in-person fundraising campaigns and events within the community, to raise funds and donations to financially sustain cadet training, activities and operations of the Army Cadet Program for the Cadets to enjoy.

  • Volunteer Recruitment: Actively plan, organize, promote and participate in online and in-person recruiting events within the community, to seek potential volunteers to join the support committee in various volunteer roles to support the Army Cadets.

  • Committee Meetings: Attend online or in-person bi-monthly committee meetings to carry out the administrative and financial duties of the committee on behalf of the Army Cadets. A majority of the members is required for quorum and are expected to be present. Meetings are considered mandatory.

Time Commitment

  • Ability to volunteer approximately 12 hours per month, over 10 months from September 2nd to June 30th (approximately 3 weeks per year).

  • Ability to attend meetings, fundraising and volunteer recruiting events outside of normal business hours (some evenings and weekends).

Communications Administrator

Description: As a member of the support committee and communications sub-committee, the Communications Administrator creates and implements the communication strategy to increase visibility and brand awareness of the Army Cadets Corps. Plans, writes and edits articles for publications, website print media, digital media, social media, and events, as well as keep the public, local media and the Brampton community informed of the activities of the 557 Lorne Scots Army Cadets.

Donor Relations Administrator

Description: As a member of the support committee and fundraising sub-committee, the Donor Relations Administrator will provide donor outreach and stewardship services. This includes collaborating and assisting with the planning and execution of gratitude initiatives with donors, stewardship activities and executing donor-centric communications. Provides ongoing management of donor files, monitoring public email inboxes. Performs various donation-related tasks answering incoming calls from donors, processing gifts and supporting the fundraising committee with all stewardship related initiatives.

Event Photographer

Love photography? Do we have the opportunity for you!

We're seeking photographers who can contribute content for our website, blog posts, and social media. Whether you venture out on your own to capture environmental images, or if you come to photograph our events there are lots of opportunities to help us create amazing content.

As a photographer, you'll be working directly with our communications team. You'll need to be able to convey the Army Cadet's unique tone and brand through your imagery, but don't worry if you're ever unsure of something you'll be in direct contact with our Communications team who can help you out!

Fundraising Coordinator

Description: As a member of the support committee and fundraising sub-committee, the Fundraising Coordinator is a leadership role to develops, organizes, sets up, and promotes virtual and in-person fundraisers in the Brampton community to raise funds and other donations for the 557 Lorne Scots Army Cadets. In addition, designs promotional materials and increase awareness of the Corps work, goals, and financial needs.

Grant Writer

Description: As a member of the support committee and fundraising sub-committee, the Grant Writer is responsible for coordinating all aspects in the administration of research grant awards, as well as providing support on project proposals and preparation of required reports. To write grant proposals to reach income goals and to develop proposals, for various grants and charitable foundations to secure funding for the 557 Lorne Scots Army Cadets youth program.

Newsletter and Blog Writers

Love to write? Become a monthly Newsletter & Blog Writer

We're seeking writers who can commit to writing monthly newsletters and one blog post monthly about the 557 Lorne Scots Army Cadets.

We're looking for writers who can make the Army Cadet Youth Program fun by bringing together their creativity and writing skills to produce top quality content. The topics may range from month-to-month but will always relate to the Army Cadets mission, values or programs. There will be various topics to choose from and you'll be able to focus on the topics that excite you the most.

To be successful in this role, you'll need to adhere to strict timelines for submission. You'll also need to be able to convey the Army Cadet Program's unique tone and brand when writing your newsletters and blog posts, but don't worry if you're ever unsure of something you'll be in direct contact with our communications team who can help you out.

As a writer, you'll be working directly with our communications team to create an annual newsletter and blog strategy that aligns with our programs and events to write newsletter and blog topics throughout the year.

Social Media Administrator

Description: As a member of the support committee and communications sub-committee, the Social Media Administrator is responsible to create, maintain, and enlarge a strong online presence for our organization. Implement marketing strategies through 'social media' accounts (i.e., Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube) in an effort to broadcast/amplify our brand, cause, and programs awareness to grow followers and drive traffic to its social media platforms.

Special Event Planners

Description: As a member of the support committee and the fundraising sub-committee, the Special Event Planner supports the success of the fundraising events. Assists with all aspects of planning, coordinating, organizing and implementing events designed to raise funds for and to promote community awareness of the 557 Lorne Scots Army Cadet programs and services. Events are held throughout the year. Many of these events are held either in the evenings or weekends.

Volunteer Ambassador (Community Outreach)

Description: As a member of the support committee and fundraising sub-committee, along with other Volunteer Ambassadors, this role is responsible for the energetic promotion of the Army Cadet Program in Brampton, with a focus enrolling youth membership into the program ages 12 to 18, raising awareness on activities and opportunities offered by the Cadet Program, building brand recognition/loyalty and increasing community engagement.

Volunteer Coordinator

Description: As a member of the support committee, the Volunteer Coordinator is a leadership role responsible for recruitment and the screening process of potential support committee and corps volunteers, cadets and corps staff including interviews, reference checks and orientation sessions. Plans, writes and edits volunteer opportunities and articles for publications, website print media, digital media, social media, and events. Plans, organizes and attends online and in-person volunteer recruitment events.

Website Administrator

Description: As a member of the support committee and communications sub-committee, the Website Administrator promotes the 557 Lorne Scots Army Cadets, its vision and mission within the community that it serves, raising its profile through the internet and social media. Critical to this is development and implementation of a quality website and design and to help make the support committee website presence known on the internet as a nonprofit organization supporting the 557 Lorne Scots Army Cadets youth program in Brampton, Ontario.
